Dog Eats Rocks

Question

Our dog is so hyper. He started eating all size rocks about 2 years ago. We thought he was bored. He started stretching and hunching a lot so took him to our vet. She did x-rays & some tests. Sure enough, he had some rocks in his stomach (colon). She operated & found 6 quite large stones. We kept them to remind us. We all also thought if we got him a friend, it would be for his benefit. She found us a darling female. It was ok for a while, then he would dig for rocks again. We're afraid we'll lose him if this continues. When he is out of the back yard with my husband, he doesn't do this. What should we do? Thank you.

Answer

Dear Pet Owner,
He may be bored and is looking for something to entertain himself. Some dogs are bad about eating foreign things-not just rocks either!
