Will Dog's Glaucoma Get Better?

Question

My bichon doggie, who is 5 years old, was recently diagnosed with glaucoma in his right eye. It started with a slight cataract. He is now on eye drops three times a day. Will he ever get better? His eye pressure has come down some and it doesn't seem to bother him. We are so worried about him as he is such a good dog and companion.

Thanks,

Joelene

Answer

Glaucoma is generally not a condition that is reversible. If it started as a cataract that shifted and is blocking the drainage angle, there is a possibility that a veterinary ophtalmologist may be able to remove the cataract and offer some relief. If you are concerned about your dog's treatment, you should ask your veterinarian for immediate referral to an ophthalmologist.

Good luck to you and your pooch!
