Rottie Peeing in the House

Question

Hi,
I have a four year old rottie who is constantly peeing in the house. He is ruining our carpets and the wood on our stairs. He will even do it when he has access to the outside. He knows that he is doing wrong because as soon as we notice it he runs and hides. He is not neutered and is home alone during the day. He is an indoor dog and is very spoiled. Any help you can give us would be appreciated.

Answer

Dear Pet Owner,
This may be a male dog behavior issue in which case neutering will help. It may be a way for him to "get back" at you for leaving him alone all day. He may also have a urinary tract infection and not be able to hold it long enough to get outside. You need some help from a veterinarian first and possible a trainer after that.
